Question 1

What is the difference between timber decking and composite decking?

Accepted Answer

Timber decking offers a natural and traditional appearance that weathers beautifully over time. Composite decking has a more modern finish and requires far less maintenance, making it a popular choice for busy homeowners.

Question 2

Is composite decking worth the extra cost?

Accepted Answer

Composite decking has a higher upfront cost but offers excellent long term value. It is highly resistant to rot, fading and warping, while requiring very little maintenance compared to traditional timber decking.

Question 3

How long does composite decking last?

Accepted Answer

High quality composite decking can last 25 years or more when installed correctly. It is designed to withstand heavy use and changing weather conditions without the issues commonly associated with timber.

Question 4

Does timber decking require a lot of maintenance?

Accepted Answer

Timber decking does require occasional maintenance to keep it looking its best. Regular cleaning and oiling or staining every few years helps protect the timber and extend its lifespan.

Question 5

Which decking option is best for modern gardens?

Accepted Answer

Composite decking is often the preferred choice for contemporary gardens due to its sleek and clean appearance. It works particularly well in modern outdoor spaces across Clapham and South West London.

Question 6

How long does decking installation take?

Accepted Answer

Most decking projects take between several days and two weeks depending on the size and complexity of the build. Larger raised decks and bespoke details naturally require additional time.

Question 7

Can decking be built around planters or garden features?

Accepted Answer

Yes, decking can be fully customised around planting areas, lighting, seating and other garden features. Bespoke designs help create a more seamless and high end finish.

Question 8

Is timber decking cheaper than composite decking?

Accepted Answer

Timber decking is usually more affordable upfront compared to composite materials. However, long term maintenance costs can sometimes make composite decking better value over time.

Question 9

Can you install lighting into decking?

Accepted Answer

Yes, integrated decking lighting is a popular feature for modern gardens and outdoor entertaining spaces. Lighting can improve both the appearance and functionality of the garden at night.
